About Me
Here’s a short bit about me for the folks that want to know!
My name is Jamie, I’m a 36 year old bloke and stay in a town called Dunbar in East Lothian, South East Scotland. It’s about 35 miles East of Edinburgh.
By day I’m a Psychiatric Nurse working in the Psychological Therapies section of East Lothian’s Community Mental Health Team. I mainly do group work with an adult client group struggling with Anxiety and Depression. I do some work with people that have personality disorders and/or psychosis and I’m currently training in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT).
DVT
In 2002 I suffered a Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) that stretched from my belly button down to my left knee. This developed into Post Thrombotic Syndrome and Chronic Venous Insufficiency which effects both of my legs. The result is that I can’t walk far without severe pain so I use a wheelchair to get about – most of the time.
I found it very difficult to find useful information when I had my DVT. The doctors kept telling me I was an “interesting case” without really telling me why or what was a “standard case”. For this reason, I am happy to talk to anyone that is struggling with a similar experience of DVT, Post DVT Syndrome (also referred to as Postphlebitic Syndrome) and/or Chronic Venous Insufficiency. This could be directly by phone, email or any other means. I know how difficult it is to go through this alone and unsupported. If you’re not sure about contacting me, do it anyway!

Disability
Although everybody’s circumstances are different, there are often areas of common ground. I can walk but the longer the distance, the more pain I suffer so I find using a wheelchair very liberating – most of the time.
Whilst in general, people try to be friendly and helpful, sometimes they just don’t have the experience to know the needs of someone with restricted mobility. There have been more than a couple of occasions when a good day out has been spoilt because someone thought I would manage gravel paths or soft grassland in my chair.
For this reason, I decided to blog about the places we have visited. If any part of my experience helps someone else to judge how suitable a venue would be for them, then all the better. However, I can only write from my point of view. I’m only an expert on myself! If you have used my reviews, please comment. Your views are as important as mine and the more information we can give to others, the better.
I would also welcome guest posts, so if you’ve been somewhere worth talking about, whether for good or bad reasons, get in touch!
and Motorhomes
As a couple and then a family, we always loved camping. My physical restrictions mean that a tent is no longer an option, so we dabbled with caravans for a while. When an accident put us off towing, we decided to try a camper. This suited us well but the needs of a growing family tempted us towards something a little bigger. We now have a fantastic motor-home that really is our pride and joy. Many of our reviews will be from places we’ve visited with the ‘van. We’ve also made a point of reviewing the camp sites we’ve used along the way.
