Domain Shortening
With all the fuss about Social Networking only getting bigger, I did a little research into the whole idea of Domain Shortening. The idea is far from new now but there are lots of new thoughts about the best way to manage the process for your website.
I have never liked the idea of using a “faceless” URL shortening service like bit.ly and the rest. What it the point of working at building your brand and then displaying all your links on someone else’s domain? So when I came across YoURLS.org (quite by accident), I really liked the idea of trying to set up the…… Read the rest
Blogging Offline
I must admit that, up until now, the concept of offline blogging confused me a little. I could see the point if you were in a place that just didn’t have a connection, but if you can connect, why not use the facility?
Well, I’ve just ‘Gone Mobile’ and realised that this presents two problems.
- The first is that my bandwidth is limited. I’m paying for my data on a ‘Pay As You Go’ basis and this makes me much more aware of the cost.

Resurrected Plugin
A while ago I wrote a couple of posts about a system of URL shortening that allowed you to use your own domain instead of one of the “faceless” shortening services that have popped up recently. I can understand the need for these shortening services, especially on Twitter when the number of characters allowed in a message is so small. However, I really don’t like the idea of clicking on a link when I have no idea where it is taking me.
YoURLs is a system that at least lets people know that they are heading back to my website. It will create a shortened…… Read the rest
Change of Settings
I added the DJ Email-Publish plugin to WordPress so that the posts I publish here and on my other blogs will be cross posted to http://meJamie.com as well. This has led to a series of changes being made to both the plugin and meJamie.com. All in all though, the changes turned out to be more straightforward than I expected. As meJamie.com is hosted by Posterous, it could have been impossible to make the changes needed. Fortunately, this wasn’t the case.
Plugin
The only change I’ve made to the plugin is to remove a horizontal rule which Posterous interpreted as a signature break and…… Read the rest
