High Server Load

Apparently I’m still suffering from High Server Load on my Shared Hosting account. I’ve disabled a huge number of plugins which, to be honest, weren’t really adding much to my blog. I just thought they were pretty cool! I have run into a bit of a brick wall though.

Last night I found a post that recommended disabling the plugin that automatically creates Google XML Sitemaps. Whilst many gurus advise the use of this plugin for SEO purposes, it apparently drains high resource levels. The author also wrote another post on how to optimise the sitemap plugin. As a (hopefully) last resort, I have disabled the plugin with a view to re-enabling it in optimised form when my host says the resource usage has dropped.

I then moved on to other sites I have installed on my account and worked at tidying them up as much as possible. Tonight, I will ask my host for another update on usage and see where we stand.

The Good News

This has forced me to clean up my act! I hope that my sites are working more smoothly as a result of this clear out. It’s also given me some fresh inspiration to rebuild and market a couple of the sites I’m running, so with luck there will be some improvements all round. In the meantime, there is still a little back end work to do but then I’ll be able to concentrate on content once again.
